Mason was born, raised and graduated college in Monroe, Louisiana. She
has lived throughout the South - in Florida, North Carolina, Virginia
and Maryland, and now has a home and studio in Emerald Isle, NC. She has
painted for 30 years in watercolor and now works primarily in mixed-media
collage. She began taking painting classes at the YWCA in Charlotte, NC,
and has continued studies with many nationally known teachers in workshops
and classes. She has found personal exploration to be the best teacher.
She employs a broad range of materials and techniques, including watercolor, acrylic, ink, tissue, washi, and "found" items. Bold color choices and blends of textures characterize much of her recent work. Expressive and evocative, her paintings convey not only a delight in her environment but also a sense of experimentation and discovery. She considers herself a "layerist" in paint, paper and life. While living in the Washington, DC, area, she was juried into the Baltimore Watercolor Society as an artist member, and the Potomac Valley Watercolorists. Her work routinely appeared in juried shows of the Rockville Art League, Chevy Chase Women's Club, and the Gaithersburg Fine Arts League, in which she won many awards. She also worked as a marketing administrator for a pharmaceutical company, assisting in the design of advertisements and promotional/sales collaterals. Shortly after moving to Carteret County, NC, she was selected to be the artist for the 1991 Seafood Festival Poster. She was the first woman selected for that honor, and the poster was the first in the series to depict women. Georgia
has had work juried into the Watercolor Society of NC's annual juried
shows on numerous occasions. In 2005, she won First and Third Place
in Mixed Media, as well as the Cassie Algeo Award for Multi Media in
the spring show of the Arts Council of Carteret County (ACCC). In the
2004 spring show of the ACCC her piece "St Francis and the Swami"
won the People's Choice award. |
